In summer 2004, The Russian-American Chamber of Commerce® adopted a mascot - the bear. Bears have been a powerful symbol in the Russian Federation for many years and previously, in the Soviet Union. They have the same significance in American culture and society.
In American culture, the bear represents a strong protector, one who demonstrates leadership and physical strength. In Russian culture, on the other hand, the bear represents a peaceful, hospitable giant, who is respected but also feared because of its strength, boldness, courage and majesty.
As the new mascot of The Russian-American Chamber of Commerce® the bear symbolizes the strong growing relations between both nations. By adopting the bear as the Chamber's mascot, we hope to bring even greater unity and sense of identity to our members as well as to underscore the purpose of our mission - to facilitate and provide knowledge relating to U.S. trade, investment and commerce in the Russian marketplace. |
